Desoto Parish Tourist Bureau welcomes new director, Julie Rogers.

The Desoto Parish Tourist Bureau has selected Julie A. Rogers of Keatchie, Louisiana to fill the position of Director of DeSoto Parish Tourist Bureau.  The Bureau is excited to welcome her on board as they have plans to update their parish tourism plan, enhance their local tourism resources and implement new marketing technology.  

The main purpose of the Tourism Bureau established by legislation in 1975, is to increase overnight hotel stays so that an economic benefit comes to the community.  Their secondary goal is to develop a tourism program or projects involving the resources of the parish so that a visitor has a quality stay and will remain longer or return more often.

Mrs. Rogers has a degree in Journalism - Advertising with a minor in History from LSU Baton Rouge.  She also has attended ULM, NSU, LSUS and La. College to gain alternative certification for Grade 1-5 and Art K-12.

Julie's family moved to Keatchie when she was a child.  After college graduation, she worked for nine years in Washington D.C. and later in Shreveport as a Regional Director for former U.S. Senator J. Benett Johnson.  Since 2003, she has worked at the Central School Corporation.  For the past year, Julie has taught Fine Arts, Yearbook and Secondary Social Studies.  She also works on a contract basis as an IEP writer for DeSoto Parish School Board preparing Individualized Education Programs for the Talented Arts, Music and Theatre students in DeSoto.

The Board of Directors of the DeSoto Tourist Bureau are Margaret Dickerson, President; Charlotte Miller, Vice-President; Pam Rogers, Treasurer; Donna Cagle; Shirely Payne; Mary Mac Thompson; and Jean Williams.  Julie begins work on Friday March 29, 2019.
